Cross country, or hare scrambles, is an off-road race run on a course 3 or more miles in length. The race lasts a minimum of one hour with the person who has gone the farthest in the allotted time the winner. The course can be quite challenging with hills, jumps, water and sand, but has been pre-laid out to ensure it is passable by old motorcycles. The AHRMA Cross Country Series may include hare scrambles, GPs, hare and hound, desert events, enduros, and ISDT-type events.
Naturally, there are classes for various ages and types of bikes - both vintage and post-vintage, but everyone runs the same course at the same time. Many motocross riders also ride cross country to get in some extra riding.
The Sandia Classic will be hosting round 16 of the 20 round AHRMA National Cross Country Series on Friday morning.
Rider classes parallel those used for AHRMA vintage motocross and post-vintage motocross regarding bikes and preparation. A rider can only be entered in one class during the race, even if eligible for multiple classes.
To ride the Vintage or Post-Vintage race, you must be an AHRMA member and AMA racing member. Pre-entry closes two weeks prior to the event. You may post-enter on race day.
