Grandma's Music and Sound on the west side of Albuquerque and PJ's Triumph raffled a customized Gary Nixon Fender Stratocaster as part of the Sandia Classic. The guitar art was created by Santa Fe artist Rick Garcia. The winning ticket was drawn during the 2006 Sandia Classic at the Sandia Motor Speedway west of Albuquerque
Gary Nixon was the winner of the American Motorcycle Association Grand National Championships in 1967 and 1968. In the early 1970s, he began to concentrate on road racing due to an 18-inch steel rod holding his left leg together. He retired from racing in 1979 and was elected to the AMA Hall of Fame in 1997.
$2700 was raised from the guitar raffle and the "Running of the Bulls", an all Bultaco dirt track race. went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Jim Pomeroy Fund and the David Sanz Fund. Jim Pomeroy an international motocross champion, AMA Hall of Fame member and avid AHRMA supporter and racer was killed in a vehicle accident in 2006. David Sanz is from Albuquerque and was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in the East Mountains near Albuquerque.
